My dad wants to get speed skates, but how many wheels should he go for?

He wants to know the pros and cons of 3, 4, and 5 wheel inline speed skates. Thanks in advance :)

My dad wants to get speed skates, but how many wheels should he go for?
5x80mm and 5x84mm were the old popular arrangements for racing skates. There are a few people still using them.

4x100 is by far the most common setup today.

There are a few skates with 2x110 and 2x100.

I think there are a handfull of people using 3x110.

The problem is that at some point as the wheels get bigger, they become more awkward to skate on. That may be at different points for different people.

What does your father currently skate on? If he is not skating currently, racing boots may not be for him at all and the larger wheels and frames may be harder to learn on.
Reply:real speed skates are still five wheels , but it depends on his foot size too. large dia will be hard for a new skater to handle.

I would find some used skates and work your way up. Learn how to stop without brakes first. It would be a good way to stay alive too.
Reply:nineteen wheels on each skate and a steam generator driving the rear ones.

Need help with roller skates?

What kind of shops/malls sell quad (not inline) roller skates? I've looked around all the shoe shops and sports shops I can think of, but nowhere sells adult size quad skates. What kind of place would sell them if none of the aformentioned?

Need help with roller skates?
Look at skating rinks for the higher end quad skates.

If you are near a city where they have a Roller Derby league, contact them to see where they get their skates. You might even be able to get some pointers.

The big box sports stores list them, I suppose it may depend on your location if they actually have them in the stores.

Dick's (http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/family...

Sports Authority (http://www.sportsauthority.com/family/in...

Going online is a last resort because you want them to fit better than a guess and a good shop (especially the rinks) are likely to have someone who can help you choose the features that fit your use as well as your feet.

Ebay would be beyond the last resort unless you really know what you are doing or really don't care about fit or quality.
Reply:Best place is on the web- maybe ebay shops.. There are several skate webites listed, and as long as you know your size, it's easy to find the quads..Try the link below.. good luck.. ! Tanya Adair

What is the difference in inline speed skating wheels as in 80mm and 100mm.?

which one is better for a beginner and also what is the difference in 4 wheels and 5 wheels and which skates better.

What is the difference in inline speed skating wheels as in 80mm and 100mm.?
Four-wheeled skates are better for inline hockey, whereas, five-wheelers are used more for racing.

Types of wheels:

48-60 mm for aggressive skating.

68-72 mm for artistic inline skating.

72-80 mm for general recreational skating.

59-80 mm for roller hockey skating and slalom.

80-110 mm for speed skating.

In general the bigger the wheel, the faster the skate. However, large wheels take more energy to start rolling. Smaller wheels allow faster acceleration, maneuverability, and a lower center of gravity. Wheel hardness is measured on the A scale and usually ranges between 78A-93A (higher numbers are harder). Harder wheels are faster and more durable, but soft wheels may have better grip (grip is determined by many factors, and wheel manufacture is arguably more important than durometer) and less affected by road bumps. Wheel profiles and thicknesses again vary by application. Elliptic profiles minimise friction for a faster ride; more rounded profiles have better grip and are more stable.

For a beginner, I would say it wouldn't really matter; you don't want to have to buy another pair of skates, so just get whatever you think would be better, the faster or slower wheels and skates. But if you are really a beginner, stick with the 80mm.
Reply:Wow, Will's answer is great! I just wanted to add that you can always buy skates with frames that can take 100mm wheels, and use 80mm wheels to start with. In most cases, if you buy skates that have frames that fit 80mm wheels, you can't switch 'up' to larger wheels. The larger the wheels, the higher you are off the ground, which means, it can feel unstable. Once you get better, and you want to go fast, you can get a skate with longer frames, which in essence gives you stability (5x80mm or 90mm wheels), but can be hard to maneuver. Hope that helps a little more!

Happy rolling! (^_^)
Reply:The 5 wheels are better. The 80mm is for beginners
Reply:I would definitely start off with a 5 wheel frame of 80 mm wheels until you get comfortable with the longer line under your feet and how to handle the faster speed.

Inlin hockey Skates?
1. Bring your skates to a local sporting goods store with a skate oven. You should consider "baking your skates." I work at a store here in Canada which sells those BSX's and, while I don't like them personally, I have Missions and I know they are fairly stiff. The baking process works wonders and is about equivalent to skating in them for about two weeks (give or take). They should go in for 5 minutes at 172 Fahrenheit. You will then wear them, laced tight, for 10 minutes or until the warmth of the boot is gone.

2. As for the support of your weight, I don't forsee any major problems as the chassis you have is fairly strong. Although, as I said, I'm not a huge fan of what you have, but they are decent.

3. The bearings are above average ABEC-5's. Make sure that you keep rotating your wheels (switching the right wheels to the left) in order to provide equitable distribution of the wear.

4. DO NOT USE WD-40 to clean the bearings! I cannot stress this enough.

5. Have fun cutting the weight = )
Reply:At least you recognized the need to go with a name brand skate. I've had a person your size ask if I knew why his skates weren't rolling. The answer was that his cheap, discount store, no name skates with plastic frames. The part holding the front wheel was broken so that the front wheel wouldn't roll.

Your skates look like they have stamped frames where the parts are screwed together. The joints between the parts are likely to be the weak spots. A lot of the stamped frames tend to be made of thinner aluminum because it is easier to stamp.

The strongest frames are made of a one piece extrusion. The extrusion process allows internal bracing to be added without any joints and high stress areas to be made heavier.

Most extruded frames come with single piece axles which are also much stronger than 2 or 3 piece axles.

I was hoping to find a good picture of an extruded hockey frame. www.rockethockey.com/frames.html has a reasonable picture but I would deffinately not recommend it since the snap in axles will be inherently loose and weaker than a screw together axle.

The enlarged view of http://hockeyworld.com/prodHome.ihtml?pi... is good. You can see the built in cross brace between the 1st and 2nd wheels and the thicker material where the frame sides meet the mounting plate.

http://www.inlinewarehouse.com/viewlarge... shows how the wheel mounts in an extruded frame are made thicker (to create the outer spacer by the wheel) instead of being an indent stamped into the frame. It is much stronger.

---

On days when you aren't doing hockey, take some trips at various speeds on local streets or trails. It will help your skating skills when you need to sprint a bit, your endurance, and weight loss.

---

The noise issue depends on what kind of noise it is.
Reply:any skates can probably support 330 pounds but just in case ask a sale person at any good sport store.

To tie them better get skate tighteners they work really good even a ice hockey skate.

If there is such a thing take in line skating lessons and if not get someone you know that is good to help you

Help...hockey skates...?

I need new inline hockey skates Sr. size, and no more than $140. Anyone know any good sites? I was thinking of either CCM or Tours. I have CCM right now.

Help...hockey skates...?
What size? I have a pair of Mission Roller Hockey skates size 7. Never been baked, I wore them once in the basement and decided I was going to stay on the ice. I paid $270 for them and trying to sell for $100. Let me know if you're interested.
Reply:Used is the way to go. At play it again sports you can get top of the line skates for that much. You may have to heat mold them to your feet, but that's easy enough to do.
Reply:i would go with a branch of hockey monkey....roller hockey monkey or hockey giant. also check out inline warehouse(link below).

What do i need to know if i'm going to buy a new rollerblade/inline skate?

I'm new to rollerblades. i'want to learn it for fun. if there's anything that i should know before i buy one? some are quite cheap;some have this thing like a brake at the back.

What do i need to know if i'm going to buy a new rollerblade/inline skate?
Does it feel good on your foot. It should give you room to expand since your feet will grow slightly. Make sure ther is room in the toe area too.

You definatley want the brake in the back. When I was learning how to ride a bike I enjoyed it so much I didn't remember how to use the brakes so I went straight into a light pole.

The brakes on blades can be a little tough at first. You will have to use balance.

Roller Blading is great and a good exercise too. Don't do any fancy tricks at first.

Now about buying them...

Go to a sporting store like ***** Sporting Goods or something of the like. Shop around there and a few others. If you see a pair you like then that's the way to go. The can range from $40-$150. So it is all a matter of what looks and feels good. Try going to the roller rink and get a leg in(pun). The rentals are crap but you will get a feel for size.

Good luck.
Reply:don't fall..................... in hurts
Reply:Buy for comfort! You will be happy you did! Do not buy the cheapest roller blade. You are talking about a heel brake

I have decided to get fit. Which sport should I choose? Golf, Inline Skating or Skateboarding?
cycling. get a good one
Reply:sketeboarding or inline because in golf all you do is swing a stupid club at a little ball, and skate boarding helps you build up the muscles in your lower body because you do alot of jumping and bending and its all about the movement in your ankles.
Reply:if you want to get fit, i definitely recommend skateboarding.

But, it shouldnt be just riding it, if your wanting to get fit skateboarding, your gonna have to get into some tricks. I can do alot of tricks and after about 20 minutes of skating and doing those tricks, i am out of energy, proving i got a huge workout.

If your not up to learning all these tricks, and skating for a few hours a day, then i definitely recommend inline skating.

Because skatboarding takes alot of work and persistence. And golfing doesnt challenge your body physically as much as the other two
Reply:Choose which ever you want, but I would choose golf and inline skating.
Reply:TRY MOUNT EVEREST
Reply:um out of those three choices i would say

inline skating

golf isnt very physically demanding and you have to make sure you have membershi at a course before you can play.

and skateboarding is very dependant on your age, young then try it over 20? dont even think about it lol either way you will spend alot of tie on the floor!

with inline skating you can use the whole of your body when moving so its more physical plus it can be practical to when you need to get somewhere quickly!

hope that helps

xx
Reply:I have been skateboarding for about 6 years, and it is one of the best workouts you can ever have. It makes your legs stronger, but it also helps your abs, and depending on what tricks you are doing, your arms and shoulders too. It gets very addictive as well.
Reply:The Nintendo Wii Console provides excellent sports facilities and you don' have to leave your armchair. You can do bowling, golf, boxing, baseball etc. Good luck.
Reply:Not Golf it's a nice walk spoiled. I'd suggest cycling. It's hard at first but you'd soon find it very rewarding. There are still many quiet country lanes your amongst the scenery in the fresh air. If you want to miss the traffic you can always get on a train.
Reply:kick boxing
Reply:I enjoy golf, but fishing a little white ball out of sand, long grass and water while people laugh at you is not to everybodies taste (Yes, I am that bad). Do what you enjoy rather than what others tell you will make fitter. Golf involves a lot of walking and so is good for your health but inline skating or running will give you a better workout. Try swimming, you can do it in the rain.
Reply:if you wanna get fit....go run! um..i would say out of the three choices you put that skateboarding would be the best....but if you really wanna get in shape go run like 30 minutes a day or join your schools track team! =]
Reply:Chess. If you lose any pieces it will take you hours searching the house for them. You'll be fit in no time!!!
Reply:I would suggest doing all three at the same time, this should give maximum results!
Reply:As a golfer, I don't think golf is the answer. Personally, its not very demanding physically. And skateboarding seems a little hazzardous. I would go with inline skating.
Reply:hi i think you should do golf its really fun and exercising , while you can see nice views for the tee off ! its a really cool sport even if ppl dont think so ! iv been playing for 5 years now and really enjoy it competing in compeition every sunday morning at 11:30 am ! try it, practice makes perfect and be patient i have been youl get used 2 it eventually plus alot of walking exercise !which seems kinda lazy but actualy works !! give it ago and good luck from paul xxx

Would 54mm 90a wheels work well as anti-rocker wheels for aggressive inline skating?

If you're referring to the grind wheels in the center, I'd recommend buying a smaller wheel and harder. You probably want a 99 or 101 durometer (sp?) wheel so that it doesn't stick on ledges and rails. As for size, mid to low 40's would probably be the best size.

Best of luck in your search and keep skating!

Is it easier for a seven year old girl to learn to roller skate or inline skate at an indoor rink?

Quads (the older version of roller skates with wheels aranged in a rectangle) are likely to be easier to use in this case.

They inherently have more side to side support which can be important to someone not used to balancing their foot on a narrow edge.

They are easier to turn at lower speeds and small areas, The wheels actualy steer in the direction that you lean towards.

The main drawbacks to quads don't really apply in the roller rink.

Inlines are less likely to pitch forward if you hit an object or a large disruption of the surface. That really helps when you are outside.

It is easier to go fast on inlines (no one has been competing in races using quads after the first year that inlines were allowed). Quads can go fast enough in the typical roller rink to not limit your ability.

Is it easier for a seven year old girl to learn to roller skate or inline skate at an indoor rink?
inline skates have more balance

i found out the hard way
Reply:I would say yes. Those little kids have no fear and they seem to pick up things pretty easy. Go out to the rink and check out the little guys and girls zoomin' around.
Reply:We're not really sure what your question is, so we will try to address both.

First, if you're asking if it's easier to learn roller skating or roller blading, the answer is - it depends on the person. Quad skates are easier on the ankles (since they have a wider base than inline skates). If a child is trying inline skates, the biggest thing to remember is - make sure they fit properly. If all the wheels are not directly under the feet (ankles bend in or out), the inline skates are TOO BIG. Not only can this cause ankle issues, but also, any skates that are too big cause blisters (from the feet moving inside of the skate).

If your question is if it is easier to learn at an indoor rink, then the answer is most definitely YES. Indoor skating is much safer than most sports. When skating indoors, there is no need to worry about debris on the floor (usually). In addition, the indoor rink may offer skating lessons.

The biggest things to remember when learning to skate - no matter what surface or equipment one is using - are to 1) keep your head up and 2) keep your knees slightly bent.

Hope this helps!
Reply:I Think rollerskating because that grasps the inital idea of skating. Also if she learns by doing rollerskating she is less likely to get her fingers chopped off.
Reply:It depends on how many people are there....u dont want her to be humiliated when she falls, but depending on the wather pick the most reasonable, also if she can ice skate theat makes a difference.

What is the difference between abec and swiss bone bearings? Skateboarding not inline skating?

ABEC ratings have been used to describe the perfection of most machined bearings, grading the smoothness of polish.

Swiss adding a different claim. It isn't just the smoothness of polish that matters but the entire assembly. There's a site that better explains it and shows a chart on which is better and for what. The differance is how they rate their bearings, thats the differance in abec and swiss. skateboarding and inline skate bearings are the same ratings, there is no differance.

http://www.inlinenow.com/features/SwissO...

What is the difference between abec and swiss bone bearings? Skateboarding not inline skating?
ABEC is the rating system for the speed of bearings and Swiss Bones bearings are a brand and is defined as:

The ABEC rating of a bearing is determined by the following (for a 608 size bearing):

1. How close the bore is to 8mm in microns

2. How close the outer diameter is to 22 in microns

3. How close the width is to 7mm in microns

4. The rotating accuracy in microns

Bones uses what they call Skate Rated bearings. They say:

This is our way of saying that just using a bearing with an ABEC rating is not enough to ensure that a bearing will perform well for skating, since ABEC ratings were intended for electric motor bearings, not skate bearings. We have adjusted the tolerances, clearances, lubricant, and component materials to optimize Bones Bearings for use in dirty, high impact environments… where you skate. That’s why they roll faster and last longer than mere ABEC rated bearings.

For Bones' explanation of the difference, I have included a link below. Overall, bearings are bearings and unless you're skating super fast on your skateboard you're probably not going to notice a difference. As long as you keep your bearings clean and don't skate through water or sand you'll be good to go.
Reply:Not much in terms of performance, provided you get ABEC 3 or better. Bones bearings have a removable sheath so you can clean them and I don't think the ABECs do. If you do a lot of ramp skating, the ABECs are a slightly better bet, as they are a bit more durable in my experience, but you won't really go wrong either way.

Whats an easy way to get sponsored for aggressive inline skating?

Im really good and i want to get sponsored soon...whats the easiest way?

Whats an easy way to get sponsored for aggressive inline skating?
Many aggressive inline skaters who are seeking sponsorship use YouTube and well-designed personal bio websites to post videos and photo galleries that demonstrate their skills. They also use the web to list their accomplishments including competition results, tours, events, exhibitions, etc., too.

Once they are online, they can seek sponsors the same way you look for a job - resumes, letters, phone calls and some companies even have sponsorship applications. The web information is used to bring skating activities to life, because a potential sponsor may not be able to come to see a skater perform in person.

Getting sponsors is a full-time job, so prepare to work as hard at this as you work on your skating skills.

Woodward West and Point X Camp are both great places for kids to go and learn from their peers and from pros! If you have any private run (indoor) skateparks in your area, many will offer summer camps or lessons for kids who want to get into the sport. I've listed some websites below for Woodward and Point X.

There aren't really any "clubs" or "teams" for the sport, but there are a few organizations out there who put together events and competitions. I've listed sites for those as well.

Where is the best place to go to rollerskate, inline skate in Miami or Miami Beach?

Both cities are very open to skating on streets and sidewalks. I have been down there twice to skate during the Great EsSkate (www.SkateMiami.com) with about 400 other people to skate the in Miami, Miami Beach, and South Beach in February.

Their club's site is www.beachbladers.com and they list directions to their regular skating locations but don't describe them. I'm sure they will be willing to give you hints on the best of them if you contact them.

The Great EsSkate is a great weekend. If you live there, you don't even have to spring for air flights or a hotel room.

How do i get a sponsorship for aggressive inline skating?

First of all, how good are you...really? There aren't many inline companies out there and our sport is small compared to skateboarding and bmx. If you're the best in your town, or among the best, a great place to start is with your local skate shop. Make sure they know who you are and get to see you skate. You may also want to make a demo video showing your best tricks. Don't worry about the quality, editing or music, the skating should speak for itself.

If you're looking to get sponsored by a major company, you'll have a lot of work ahead of you. Start going to competitions, win those competitions, move up, meet people and sell yourself. It's all about networking and the more people you know, the more people you'll have supporting you. There are tons and tons of incredible rollerbladers out there who no one's ever even heard of. Get good and get yourself known. The rest will come.

Although...let me tell you that there is not much money in being sponsored in this sport. Even if you don't get sponsored, I hope that you rollerblade because you love it and you'll continue to be a part of the sport no matter what.

What are the dimensions of a helmet for inline skating?

Most websites give the option of large, medium or small. Besides trying them on, how would I be able to know if they fit?

What are the dimensions of a helmet for inline skating?
here's pro-tec's handy skate helmet sizing chart

http://pro-tec.net/skate/images/size1.jp...
Reply:There are no standard dimensions. You would need to find a chart for the brand of helmet you are looking at.

Some brands make adjustable helmets that have a seperate headband inside that is adjustable. One advantage of this style is that the band will adjust to the shape of your head.

It is still best to try them on. Some helmets may move around on your head where others will keep their position better.

If you are doing rec/fitness skating, a bicycle helmet is suitable protection and gives you more choices.

If you are doing other types of skating, a multisport helmet will provide more protection to the sides and back of the head.

What body parts are being used when inline skating?

It depends on how you skate, and/or your style. Of course, you will use your calves, quads, hamstrings, and your glutes, for the basic skating moves, but if you lean forward to go faster (tuck position), you will also use your core muscles (abs %26amp; back), as well. Look at professional speed skaters; their lower body is usually very well-developed. This info is from my experience of inline skating for 11 years, but you can also check out the links I've included for some interesting reading.

What body parts are being used when inline skating?
for me it would be my *** sliding and bouncing down the sidewalk.
Reply:Almost all of them. Tour using all your leg muscles to constanlty push to make yourself go faster. You use your arms to chest muscles to swing your arms creating momentum. I dont know if you use your abs/back or not but not alot of muscles are left unused. It is a very physically demanding sport.

Whats the difference between aggressive and normal inline skating,?

Aggressive inline skating involves doing tricks on inline skates. These type of skaters do many different grinds using various surfaces of their skates as well as jump gaps. If you've ever seen the X-Games or similar shows on TV, aggressive inline is what they feature.

Normal inline skating is what the majority of people with inline skates do. Grab your skates, head to the beach and go for a leisurely skate.

How do i get sponsored for aggressive inline skating?

Write up a resume of what you have done in your skating. Particularly what awards/competitions you have won or work that you do in that area.

Write up what attention you can get for your sponsors and how you will do it.

The whole point of a company sponsoring you is to earn more money from people who see you and buy their products because of you.

Think of it from their view point to decide what to write up.

Decide on what level of company you can get as a sponsor. The big names want people who can return big time.

Nationaly known people can get sponsorship from whomever they want.

Regionally known people can get sponsorship from the big companies but it is more work.

Local people should start looking at local businesses. If you are a trend setter locally, their name on you can become business for them.

What is a good name for an inline skate/ski company?

One that hasn't been done.

What is a good name for an inline skate/ski company?
It depends if you want to be a manufacturer or vendor.

Manufacturing names are more open. K2, Salomon, Roces, Bauer, AmWing, Hyper, Labeda, none of those would give you a hint about their business.

As a vendor, your name would work well, Skye Skates or Skye's Skates have a good ring to them and they work with Ski also. The alliteration locks the name into people's minds.

RollerBob (www.rollerbob.com) is a friend of mine and almost no one just calls him Bob and very few would be able to tell you his last name.

Thinking about it more, Skye would work as a manufacturer also. Distinctive and easy. Those are the reasons that George Eastman invented the word Kodak. It has no meaning but became to mean photography to most people.

I'm trying to find an Aggressive Inline Skating Magazine to subscribe to for my finacee %26amp; I cant find any.Help
ONE is the new magazine which was started by many people who used to work for Daily Bread. And you're right...DB went out of business last year. Many subscribers (like myself) only got 2-3 issues after pre-paying for a full year. :(

ONE is still a small magazine, but they are committed to putting out a certain number of issues per year and helping to promote the sport. You can subscribe through their website which I've listed below.

Be-Mag is another publication, however they aren't US based and it may take several weeks after their publication date to get the mag.

Reply:http://www.inlinefitnessmag.com/ This is currently the closest there is..... there was supposed to be a magazine coming out in June 2005 called Race %26amp; Roll, but they don't seem to be up and running. Fitness and Speed Skating Times was going to resume publication, but they are a no show too.

I looking for a sponser for inline skating?
What can you bring to the sponsor?

Getting a sponsor is like job hunting. Write up a document that tells a potential sponsor what he gets for his money.

Detail competitions (especially those that you have won) and other events that mean their name will be visible.

If you are a local guru, teaching other local people, that adds clout to your ability to be noticed.

Detail how you will make their name visible.

Then look for businesses in your area that are interested in the people who see you.

What is the difference b/w inline skating and rollerblading?

Nothing really. In-line skating is rollerblading. SInce rollerblade was the first in-line skate brand the two are commonly used interchangably. Even though all in-line skates aren't rollerblades, they get the credit for being the first

If u can rollerblade, can u inline skate?

i was just wondering

If u can rollerblade, can u inline skate?
They are the same.

Unless you mean Roller skate with the old type of skates with the 2X2 format with the wheels set up like how a car is.

It will take a little to adjust, but you won't have any problem with it. Alot of things you were able to do with the older skates you will be able to do easier and better once your balance is adjusted to it.

Its great exercise. :)

How do I form an aggressive inline skate team?

dont I need stickers shirts and a name? what else

How do I form an aggressive inline skate team?
If you and your friends want to form a team (sometimes also referred to as a crew), that's great. You can make up a name for your team if you want and have shirts, sure! More than anything else it just requires that you all enjoy the sport and encourage and push each other to get better. So get out there, skate, get your friends into skating, get their friends into skating...do whatever you can to keep our sport alive!!!
Reply:video first to show how good u guys are then shirts and stuff
Reply:my husband started an in-line hockey league in his hometown for kids several years ago. (now he plays adult hokey as a goaly)

I think the first thing you do is find the place you will practice. After you get that squared away, run an ad in the paper looking for others that would be interested. After your team is together for a little while, you can order shirts with your name %26amp; logo from a trophy shop or sporting goods store. If there is a league in your community already set up, your local city recreation dept. should be able to tell you.

What site has the best inline skating vids?

You can find clips on sites like YouTube or Google Video. However, if you want to purchase videos and help keep our sport alive by supporting the industry, you can buy videos at several inline stores. I have listed a few below. Some of them offer bundles of older videos for pretty cheap.

Which brands are good for inline skating?

It all depends on what type of inline skating you are looking to do. I am going to guess recreational as opposed to aggressive or stunt skating. If this is correct, you will want to stick with the name brands which you will find to be of better quality and more comfortable. A few of the best brands out there are K2, Rollerblade, and Roces. I have included a link below to each of these manufacturers. From their sites you should be able to find retailers in your area.

How old is Chris Haffey - inline skate pro from California? Can you find his fan e-mail address aswell?

I think Chris Haffey is 24 or about that anyway. Totally incredible skater however old he is! And as for an email address, the best way to contact him might be through the Remz website. They are a pretty small and tight company so I'm sure if you went there, they could at least pass on your message.

I want to get into inline skating how do i start?

i have nothing!

wat should i buy?

wat do i need?

I want to get into inline skating how do i start?
Go get yourself some inline skates! Seriously though, to get started all you really need is a smooth flat surface, some inline skates and, for protection, knee pads and wrist guards at least.

When buying your first pair of inline skates, I would suggest NOT going to places like Wal-Mart or Target. The skates you'll find at these stores are of poor quality and won't be comfortable. Head to a local sporting goods store and look for skates by Rollerblade, K2 or Salomon (just a few suggestions). These skates will cost you a little bit more, however you will find them to be much more comfortable and they'll last.

If you've ever ice skated, inline skating is sort of like that. There is quite a bit of balance involved. I'd suggest starting out on a flat smooth surface so that you can control your speed and not get all scraped up. (inside of a garage is a great place to learn). You may even want to start out inside your house and stand up on a carpeted surface just to get the feel of the skates. From there start slow and try to get comfortable pushing off from side to side to get speed.

Best of luck learning and feel free to contact me if you have any other questions!
Reply:you should probley buy some tours or missions. thats what i use, tours will last u the longest. buy the skates at a local hockey store. ( a decent pair might cost u 100-210 dollars.)

What are the best aggressive inline skating companies?

I've just been wondering which companies people prefer and which ones have the best equipment for an up-and-coming skter.

What are the best aggressive inline skating companies?
If you're looking for skates, there are quite a few reputable companies out there that have a heavy focus on aggressive inline. Some are:

Rollerblade

Razors

USD

Valo

For a beginner in the sport, I would look to Rollerblade or Razors for skates. They have a good entry-level offering which really only means a lower price. Their products are great and the only real difference between their "entry-level" and top of the line skates are the add ons (wheels, frames, etc). You'll still get a good bang for your buck.

Below is a link to a website I created with several resources for aggressive inline. I hope this helps and please feel free to contact me with any other questions.

Are there any indoor skate parks in New York City (aggressive inline skating) that are open? If so, where?

There used to be an indoor park in NYC...I think it was called Underground or something like that. I searched for it, however was unable to find any info and it may have closed down. I'm not aware of any other indoor parks in the city, but have included a link to a list of skateparks below.

What muscles are worked while inline skating/ rollerblading?

I've rollerbladed all the time in the pasts and stopped about a year ago. I've started up again so my dog can get a great workout in the morning. We rollerblade for at least and hour. I was just curious as to what muscles are worked. I know my thighs are on fire but some sort of shin muscle is definitely worked. It was on fire when I first started.

What muscles are worked while inline skating/ rollerblading?
That is probably "tibialis anterior" muscles if your feeling it in the front of your lower legs, next to the bone (tibia). Yes, this is also known as the area for "shin splints". I'm sure that you know that with time and exercise the fire and aches will dissipate.
Reply:With roller blading you work many muscles that don't always get worked as often as they should.

In addition to your butt, you are probably feeling some aching in your inner thighs (from your calf to your groin), the entire back of your legs from your ankles to the lower half of your butt, your obliques from swaying back and forth, your lower back and waist also from the hip swaying motion and your shoulder muscles.

Inline skating is an incredible exercise as it not only works almost all the major muscles in your body but it can be an excellent cardio workout if you move your arms more than you normally would.

Actually your question should probably be "what muscles am I not working" as you work so many with roller blading.

Great exercise!

Which one is better, aggresive inline skating or skateboarding?

I agree that they are both equal. Both sports are extremely difficult and have unique elements. Skateboarders can flip their boards around while doing airs and spins. Rollerbladers can do huge spins to grids and multiple switch ups. It just depends which sport you prefer. Personally, I love rollerblading and to me it is better only because it is what I do.

The people who answered that rollerblading is just spins or that people will get beat up if they go to a skatepark are totally ignorant. Rollerblading is still a growing sport and there are WAY more grinds out there than there are spins. People who aren't familiar with the sport aren't going to be able to tell the difference between tricks just like someone who doesn't know skateboarding might not know the difference between a 5-0 or a 50 50.

It's all a matter of perception, but they are both great and encourage individualism and creativity.

Which one is better, aggresive inline skating or skateboarding?
I think inline skate rules i hate wood pushers Report It

Reply:Aggressive Inline Skating, if you're good at it!
Reply:I consider them equal. Both have risks, but they both have awesome tricks, require skill, and utilize different methods to accomplish the end result.
Reply:skateboarding because the tricks go even bigger their could be flips, grabs, and many places u could hit and tare up like the top of a buildin, or a school with a lot of stairs. Bottom line all i see for inline skating is spins and that is it. I will be a SK8ER 4EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Skateboarding is way better. If you are an inline skater and you go to a skatepark, they are gonna beat the **** out of you with their board and then start doing kickflips over your knocked out body.
Reply:Skateboarding there are more tricks you can do and its more fun

How do u make inline skate wheels have more grip (grippy)?

hey i have hyper formula wheels but i lost like all my grip.. is there anyway to make them more grippy???

How do u make inline skate wheels have more grip (grippy)?
You can't change the grip (other than a slight amount by roughing up the surface). It is determined by the urethane mixture and the age. Yes, if you use the older wheels, the urethane can change.

There are a lot of places to get wheels online that don't cost an arm and a leg. Inline Warehouse is one that I've delt with in the past that carries the Hyper Formula (http://www.inlinewarehouse.com/AdvSearch...

As marchockey indicated, the Formulas are made for indoor use. If you set up a second full set of wheels/bearings/spacers, it becomes easy to swap wheels with a second set for different uses.

One of my friends is an online vendor, primarily of rec/fitness parts but he also carries the Labeda Gripper wheels specificaly for hockey players who play outside.

His big sellers are the kits with wheels and bearings (www.rollerbob.com/L08.html) but he also sells wheels by themselves. If you buy a kit to create a second set for your skates, you will also need the appropriate spacers (it depends on your axle size).

If you are unsure of what you need, you can contact him via his web site. Bob is an honest salesman. He will work with people to get what is best for their skating, even if it is not the higher priced items.
Reply:get a propane (not butane) torch or gas stove and heat the wheels quickly, don't hold it over them or they will melt/burn.

this changes the hardness of the wheels permanently, it makes them softer and grippier, the longer you heat them the softer they get.

do not use them while they are warm/hot or they could change shape for good.
Reply:I'm guessing you're one of those indoor roller hockey players who was talked into playing on asphalt and didn't bother to change their wheels. My best advise, which I learned the hard way, is to have a set of indoor wheels, and a set for outdoor.
Reply:just like everyone else said - you'll probably need new wheels, i've never heard of any way that protects their 'grip'

if you've had them for along time then i can understand but if your skates are new just remember not to go outside and make sure they don't get wet :)
Reply:I'm not entirely sure, but try using a really coarse grain sand paper and scraping the wheels on that as to get the entire wheel all the way around. That might work.
Reply:A cheap trick is to score them but that's only until you get new ones, hopefully soon.
Reply:nope... sorry you will need new wheels and they are pretty expensive too

Im an aggressive inline skate. what id the best way to hit a fish brain?

Here is a how-to from www.rollerwarehouse.com. See the link below as well:

Fishbrains are one of my favorite tricks and I’ve been asked how do I do them. Basically, this is how to do a fishbrain:

1. Your Approach.

When approaching the object, try to stay parallel to it. Don’t skate right next to it, leave a little room for you to get your leg up for the grind.

2. Locking it in.

You want to try to jump with both feet at one time. When doing this grind, I sweep my fishbraining skate underneath of me and can now lock it in about 99% of the time perfectly. It takes practice to get the lock-in down, but once you get it you won’t loose it.

3. Riding it out.

Grabbing your other skate adds style to the grind, so if you can, grab your non grinding skate. Keeping your balance is not that difficult. Stay low on the grind and you’ll be fine.

4. Getting ready to get off.

You see the end of your obstacle and you start to get ready to get off of it. Start to rise off the grind a little bit so you can push off of the obstacle to land at the end.

5. Getting off.

Using your fishbraining foot, push off of the obstacle for your landing. If you didn’t rise on the grind a little bit, chances are you’re just going to ride off of the grind which can look a little sloppy.

6. Land it.

Stick the trick. Land it, call it a day, grab a burger and go home.

Hope that helps and good luck with it! I can only do this trick on mini (barely!).
