How do u make inline skate wheels have more grip (grippy)?
You can't change the grip (other than a slight amount by roughing up the surface). It is determined by the urethane mixture and the age. Yes, if you use the older wheels, the urethane can change.

There are a lot of places to get wheels online that don't cost an arm and a leg. Inline Warehouse is one that I've delt with in the past that carries the Hyper Formula (http://www.inlinewarehouse.com/AdvSearch...

As marchockey indicated, the Formulas are made for indoor use. If you set up a second full set of wheels/bearings/spacers, it becomes easy to swap wheels with a second set for different uses.

One of my friends is an online vendor, primarily of rec/fitness parts but he also carries the Labeda Gripper wheels specificaly for hockey players who play outside.

His big sellers are the kits with wheels and bearings (www.rollerbob.com/L08.html) but he also sells wheels by themselves. If you buy a kit to create a second set for your skates, you will also need the appropriate spacers (it depends on your axle size).

If you are unsure of what you need, you can contact him via his web site. Bob is an honest salesman. He will work with people to get what is best for their skating, even if it is not the higher priced items.
Reply:get a propane (not butane) torch or gas stove and heat the wheels quickly, don't hold it over them or they will melt/burn.

this changes the hardness of the wheels permanently, it makes them softer and grippier, the longer you heat them the softer they get.

do not use them while they are warm/hot or they could change shape for good.
Reply:I'm guessing you're one of those indoor roller hockey players who was talked into playing on asphalt and didn't bother to change their wheels. My best advise, which I learned the hard way, is to have a set of indoor wheels, and a set for outdoor.
Reply:just like everyone else said - you'll probably need new wheels, i've never heard of any way that protects their 'grip'

if you've had them for along time then i can understand but if your skates are new just remember not to go outside and make sure they don't get wet :)
Reply:I'm not entirely sure, but try using a really coarse grain sand paper and scraping the wheels on that as to get the entire wheel all the way around. That might work.
Reply:A cheap trick is to score them but that's only until you get new ones, hopefully soon.
Reply:nope... sorry you will need new wheels and they are pretty expensive too
