What is the advantage of Rollerblading(inline skating)?

I want to start roller blading :( It's not very popular in the philippines though. Maybe skateboarding is a little popular, but i like roller blading. I'm sure my parents wouldn't allow me to star -_-. But if by chance they would, what is the advantage of roller blading? In our area, it would be a perfect place to skate because not many cars pass. so is roller blading worth it?

What is the advantage of Rollerblading(inline skating)?
Compared to skateboarding? It's quicker and more versatile. You tend to be able to acceptably roller blade in public more than skateboard, as skaters tend to be frowned upon as hooligans. They work different muscle groups. Blading tends to be more of a leg workout, giving you long lean lines.

Couples can go blading together, or families can blade together, making it more social.

You have more control over blades, because it's similar to walking. You can change pace and direction very easily. Blades aren't too expensive, and last a long time.

On the downside, blades can't be taken off as quickly as simply getting off your board, and going *up* stairs can be pretty tricky.

So, yeah. Blading is worth it. It's good exercise and can be a fun mode of transportation.

Can someone recommend an inline skate brand that can be used for figure skating?

Inexpensive. Thanks.

Can someone recommend an inline skate brand that can be used for figure skating?
They aren't going to be inexpensive. There aren't enough people doing that type of skating for the prices to get good.

Description please 2 the following Inline-Skating jumps Double jump Abstract Shifty Mute Backside Royale Nugen

I am looking for an expert In-Line Skating, who can give me a description please of each of the following jumps %26amp; moves. E.g. An Abstract is it a spin or a jump and how is it performed? The jumps %26amp; moves are as follows: Double Jump, Abstract, Shifty, Mute, Backside Royale, Nugen. The descriptions are important as I'm writing an article so any accurate help would be valued thanks.

Description please 2 the following Inline-Skating jumps Double jump Abstract Shifty Mute Backside Royale Nugen
Double Jump

A double is a 720-degree jump - The skater rotates two full revolutions before landing. There are a lot of variations of this based on body position and the structure used... there are doubles in other forms of skating, too.

Abstract

An abstract move crosses the legs under the skater's body, but it is not a grab.

Shifty Grind

Some people may call this a Royale.

Mute Air

When a skater grabs the opposite foot by reaching across the front.

Backside

Opposite of frontside. The skater's back is leading into the ramp or the surface they’re grinding with feet spread a little more than shoulders width.

Royale

A grind done on the inside of the lead skate and the outside edge of the trailing skate. The Royale is different from a frontside or backside because of the angle of the feet - the trailing foot is bent over causing the boot to slide on the backslide plate.

Nugen (Fahrvergnügen)

It's a Royale, but going in the opposite direcion with the feet in the same position.

The descriptions above are simplified. Try one of these books for details for your project:

Rollerblading tricks, inline skating?

hello people. i just wanna know somethin. i wanna know wut r the right rollerblades for grinding on railings and other tricks. plz show me like a pic of it or a website

Rollerblading tricks, inline skating?
Grinding is part of aggressive skating. Aggressive skates have a notch between the 2nd and 3rd wheels and replaceable blocks to protect your skates from getting ground.

There are a lot of pictures of different models at www.inlinewarehouse.com/AggSkate.html
Reply:don't listen to this guy above me, rollerblading is the best thing that's ever happened to me. i suggest you start rollerblading. Report It

Reply:I use to do all that aggressive skating, and all that grinding is really silly. It tears up all those fancy granite surfaces with wax markers, and most of the people who do, only ride the rails enough times to learn it only breaks bones for the ones who ride the hand rails.

I would fancy the half-pipes and the skate parks, in hindsight. Go find one of those areas and tear it up.

How to inline skate?

hey guys i got this nice pair of skatesi i jsut dont know how to.. how do i?? is their a site seeing hoe to do it or a video please tell me.

How to inline skate?
The Rollerblade web site (http://www.rollerblade.com/home/index.ph... has some basic animated online lessons.

Liz Miller has written a good book "Get Rolling" with details on all the basic skills. A lot more information than you can get in a video. http://www.getrolling.com/lizbooks.html

There are some parts of the form that are not obvious you can practice for years (like I did) and then improve suddenly when some of them are pointed out to you by a real instructor.

If you have a local inline skating club in your area, they can help give you pointers.
Reply:Do your self a favor. If you don't know how to skate spend the money on the knee pads, gloves and wrist guards. Maybe even a helmet.

They can be cumbersome but during the breaking-in period, that would you not the skates, they could save you a lot of grief and possibly a trip to the hospital.

Then strap your skates on and practice, practice, practice.

Good Luck and have fun.
Reply:inline skating is all about practice. im sure there are video's that will teach but that does not beat the trial and error.
Reply:There are many ways to learn to inline skate. So choose a method that will work in your lifestyle and go for it.

The best way to learn is to sign up for basics skills classes at a local skating rink, with a recreational skating program, with a speed team or with a certified independent skating school or instructor. These programs will give you the foundation for any type of skating you may want to try including: recreational, fitness, aggressive, freestyle slalom, speed, hockey, figure (yes inline figure skating) and more. Nothing will replace the "real person lesson" thing.

Your next choice would be books, videos and internet information. Many of the inline skating and speed sites offer great information, contacts for lessons and training and opportunities to network with other skaters. If you learn this way, skate with friends so you will know if what you are doing is right. We never look the way we think we do.

Practice, practice, practice. Whether you get formal training or self-instruct, you'll only get as good as how hard and how often you try. All training should go hand-in-hand with protective gear, by the way.

Any good inline skate shops in lawrence?

You should be able to buy 'rec' or hockey skates at Sports Authority or ***** etc. If you want speed skates, you'll need to buy online. Some places to try for speed skates.... Adamsinline.com, Nettracing.com, or Ntsk8.com. This should give you some places to start.

Bicycling or inline skating?

Which of these is better fitness and exercise wise? and why?

I'm trying to decide which to buy.

Bicycling or inline skating?
I would say both have benefits... Skating may be a little better as it requires a little more in the way of stabilistation, however in cycling the movement is more constant, you can also ride almost anywhere whereas with skates you may be limited.

I would say that both are great and just buy the one that seems like the most fun to you becuase that will be the thing that you do more often and it will be more benficial to do 30mins a day of the things you enjoy than no minutes a day of the other because you think it sucks and is borring, exercise should be as fun as possible so you are motivated to do it.
Reply:That's funny because I love both, but I believe that in-line skating would be the better all around workout. You have to basically use all of your muscles to move, keep balance, start and stop. When you bike you're primarily using your legs. =)
Reply:I've never tried inline skating, but I ride a bike plenty. You'll get where you're going a lot faster on a bike. For exercise, though, the problem is that riding a bike is too easy. To get any good exercise you have to go dangerously fast. Running is much better exercise but my knees can't take it. I figure it's better to be cautious than to risk messing up my knees.
Reply:Cycling as it has greater long term appeal, whilst inline skating is a fad. You can also(depending on your bike)cycle further for commuting. There is less risk of injury with cycling and less time to learn how to use. The actual exercise itself is easier to tailor to your needs on a bike.

Hope I helped.

Is inline skating a good exercise?

My dad said I have to get an exercise to keep my body fit. I don't like playing everyday sports like basketball, badminton, soccer, etc. Wanted to try something different. So is this a good exercise?

Is inline skating a good exercise?
It is fabulous!

As a cardio exercise - it can't be beat - low impact, low strain, lots of fun and you can go ANYWHERE (mostly!).

Once you get in the swing of things, try skating on differing terrain heights (IE: up inclines, stepping up stairs etc.) to vary the workouts and the targeted muscles.

Just remember, with any exercise, you should stretch/ warm-up before you head out and, for the cardio benefits, keep in your target heart-rate for at least 18 - 20 minutes depending on how fit you already are!

Enjoy and good luck!

Oh, and don't forget the safety equipment - especially the helmet - won't do you any good to be in shape and unable to walk!)

Are "rb" rollerblades proffesional aggresive inline blades?

really serious answers guys! is the aggressive inline skate "rb" proffesional?

Are "rb" rollerblades proffesional aggresive inline blades?
I believe the RB brand skates you are talking about (usually available at Big5 or other discount sporting good stores) are acutally made by Rollerblade. They are a VERY entry level aggressive skate and if the sport is something you are really serious about, I wouldn't recommend the skates. They seem kinda cheesy. So, I think they are made by Rollerblade, but have a different name on them. If you're looking for quality aggressive skates, check some of the links below...
Reply:i know RB is short for the company RollerBlade, there might be some knock off brand using "RB" as their name, im not sure. if you are talking about the brand RollerBlade then yes, they are fairly good aggressive skates. Some people find them a bit too stiff, thought, a lot of people like them for park riding.

For inline skating what the difference in having 2 wheels insted of 4?

There isn't a difference in recreational skating, however in aggressive skating there IS a difference. Eliminating the middle two wheels is what is called a freestyle set up. This gives you more room to do "royale" tricks, or tricks where you would have been grinding between your middle two wheels.

Freestyle has become more and more popular over the last few years and frame companies are now manufacturing frames specifically for this set up type. Just one of the many options out there for aggressive inline skaters.

For inline skating what the difference in having 2 wheels insted of 4?
there isn't one, you can either have two or four it doesn't do anything for performance its just style.
Reply:Well, if you're into going fast, it does make a difference. The more wheels you have, the ride is alot more stable. Of course, if you have more wheels (like 5), you might have a longer frame which might also mean you'll have a harder time maneuvering, like, a turn. And if the wheels are farther apart, that makes a difference in speed %26amp; stability too.
Reply:Actually, I would say that there are a couple of important differences:

1) Weight - 4 wheels (with bearings) are heavier than two (bonus for the two wheels - unless you're trying to "train" and build muscles ... then bonus for the four ;)

2) Failures - if one wheel fails, you're still skating with 4 wheels (just remove the bad one), but with 2 wheels, if one goes, you're walking... (bonus for the four wheels)

My personal preference - split the difference... use 3 - oh, but the vendors don't make 'em like that any more. :(

If i inline skate too much would that affect my ice skating?

In-line skates vs. Quads?

I can inline skate reasonably well (for recreation and long distance, not aggressive skating performing stunts and such), but recently I went to a skating rink and got on a pair of quads. I had no form whatsoever and had to concentrate to keep my balance. I thought the transition would be easier from inlines to quads, but apparently it is not.

It seems like people can to more artistic things on quads, but it seems that inlines are better for outdoors or recreation. What do you think?

In-line skates vs. Quads?
I started skating on quads when I was 3 years old. Skated until I was 20! Then I stopped completely and was introduced to in-line skating 15 years later. I found in-line skating a lot easier, and it was much faster! 4 years later, I went to a retro indoor skating rink in NYC, and saw skaters still boogying and skating on quads. I decided to buy a pair, and try it out and you are right, it was hard to transition from in-line to quads. I felt the side to side motion is more pronounced when skating on quads, and I could not dance %26amp; bounce around on them like I used to! (^_^) I know some in-line figure skaters, and their motions are closer to ice-skating than quad-skating. Maybe I have to save money to buy a pair of the in-line figure skates? Of course, you can also get a pair of the new Skorpion Quadlines that look like the old-school metal skates, except they use large, in-line wheels instead and are alot pricier. Fast AND artistic! Check out the videos on their website:

http://www.skorpionquadline.com/

I skate on in-line speed skates now, and do it outdoors. But I would love to be also be able to hop %26amp; dance around, just not on my speed skates; gotta figure--which skates? Quads, in-line figure skates, or Scorpions!
Reply:Quads keep your feet planted kinda flat on the ground, whereas inline skates move with your body lean. I know quad skaters who have transfered to inline and ice skating really well, but like you said, it's not easy going back to quads! Quads are slower than inlines - so yes, I do think inlines are better for recreation like long distance skating as you mentioned.

Artistic things: Yes, quads for sure, and some stuff can be done on inlines but it looks "clunkier" in my opinion. Have you ever seen this product? The Pic Skate http://www.picskate.com/ They are inlines that have been designed to be like ice skates . . . artistic skating can be done with those (look into it - there's competitions and everything).
Reply:I love quads, because they are much easier to turn on (so you can do spins ). However, It's really hard to do jumps and things on them.

Where can I buy inline skate wheels in Dallas?
You might want to check with the Pegasus Flyers (local Dallas club) at www.pegasusflyers.org. They also have a Yahoo group DFW-Inline-Skaters.

I get my wheels from RollerBob (www.rollerbob.com) because he is honest (I know him) and his prices are better than any of our local stores.

Feel free to ask tell him your ability and type of skating then ask for recommendations. He will probably choose something other than the most expensive.

Best inline skate for beginners?

You want something that fits good and feel comfortable. I wouldnt suggest going out and getting the most expensive top of the line skate, but don't buy the cheapest either! In-line skates come with wheel bearings that have a number rateing associated with them, if you have ever ice skated in your life and are pretty good then you can go with a APEC 5 bearing and do well, if you are a true all out beginner, stick with an APEC 3 bearing. The lower the number the less speed you can generate while skating. You want something with plenty of ankle suport too, you might not get the prettiest pair on the rack, but if you are serious about skating on the regular you dont need to worry about a fashion show do you? Also get something with a REAR break on it, stay away from hockey skate replicas! Try going to a sporting goods store, stay away from Wal*mart and stores like that. Usually the people in those department are extremely helpful. I hope I shed a little light on the subject for you! Good luck and have fun skating.

OH PS - Get a helmet, again you arent in a fashion show! Protect your noggin! If you are a real beginner you WILL fall!

Inline skating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

can you do a cess slide like a hockey stopp?

Inline skating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Yes I can! And so can you. The only difference between doing it on ice and on a dry surface is to be sure your wheels don't touch the ground. Position yourself like you're doing a royale and balance on the sides of your boots to slide. And try learning on as smooth a surface as possible. Indoor parks are great since the ramps are usually covered in skatelite or masonite. You can also do unity cess slides, farv cess slides, the list goes on and on.

Aggressive inline skate question?

are the razors genesys 6 a good skate for beginners, will they absorb the landing impact of big drops? or should i get Rollerblade trs downtown 3? the thing about those is that the liner slides, and i broke a buckle in the store? the nearest skateshop is an hour away

thanks for the answers

Aggressive inline skate question?
The Razors Genesys are MUCH sturdier skates than Rollerblades. I've had the same problem with the liners in the Downtowns...they slip and slide unless you crank the buckle down and really tighten the laces.

The Genesys boot is very sturdy and will absorb a lot of impact from gaps and big drops. They're also much more comfortable than Rollerblades (at least for me). If you want a somewhat stiff and sturdy skate, you'll love these boots. And they should last quite a while since they're all plastic.

Good luck and happy skating. I've included a couple sites below which also might help.

Inline skating socks?

Does anyone know of any socks to wear while skating that help wick away sweat and maybe help with cooling?

Inline skating socks?
Helping with cooling is more an effect of your skates. If air and moisture doesn't move through it, the socks will not have an effect. Depending on your skates, you might be able to add some venting in the plastic areas.

For getting moisture away from your feet, you want a synthetic inner (or only) layer next to your feet. Thin or no socks can be the ultimate for this if your skates have breathable wicking liners (many newer skates). Unfortunately, if you bought your skates with room for socks, that can make them overly large.

Cotton will hold moisture. If you have thin synthetic socks inside of thin cotton socks, it will move the moisture away from your foot and slowly release it from the outside.

I am lucky and my feet don't sweat a lot. I can wear plain cotton athletic socks. When I take them out, most of the moisture also leaves the skates and I don't need a lot of effort drying them out.

Inline Skating Wheels?

I really want to buy a pair of inlines, Bladerunner Performa In-Line Skate Women (here's a pic) http://www.dunhamssports.com/largeImage/...

It says it has 76mm wheels, is that OK for a 12 year old who goes skating every week? Or is there a better option?

Inline Skating Wheels?
Here's more information on the skate you are looking at (from the manufacturer's website):

SHELL Molded cuff for lateral support and durability.

LINER Removable, soft, padded liner and tongue

for breathability and comfort.

CLOSURE Buckle, lace and power strap closure

system for comfort and support.

FRAME Molded, rigid frame with rink-compatible

flush hardware.

WHEELS/BEARINGS 76mm Bladerunner cast

polyurethane wheels for a smooth and comfortable

ride/ABEC 5 bearings for optimum performance.

I think if you're an average size 12-year old, who skates for fun %26amp; recreation, it should be a great pair of skates. It has support where it's needed, the bearings it comes with are great, and the size of wheels are good. But if you're a taller/larger 12-year old, you may want to try skates that can accomodate larger wheels than a 76mm. Why? It's good to start with smaller wheels but as you become a better skater, you may want to go faster. Larger wheels (80-100mm) roll better, but if you're petite, larger wheels may also mean less stability, because you will be higher off the ground. Just remember that the larger the wheels, it's harder to maneuver.

Here's a link to Rollerblade's product selector:

http://www.rollerblade.com/products/prod...

The main thing is that the skates are comfortable. Try them on, roll around a bit, and if your feet/ankles don't hurt, it's good.

Hope that helped. Happy Rolling! (^_^)

Want to start inline skating, I have wide foot,12.5EEE. any brand recomends? prefer 1 buy,ForFutureProgress.?

Is there such a skate that will allow me to get better without equipment holding me back? I was thinking of a soft skate like rollerblade or K2. I'm kinda just starting out. I thought a 78-80 mm wheel with abec7 bearings might keep me in tune for a while? I'm pleasure skating for exersize but would like to cut up %26amp; speed some also. (kinda like hockey style) I skate indoors on wood floor. Remember I have a wide foot so I need comfort, which will help me skate longer without pain. Any input appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Want to start inline skating, I have wide foot,12.5EEE. any brand recomends? prefer 1 buy,ForFutureProgress.?
If you're looking for recreational skates, then I can only recommend going to stores/shops and trying all the skates close to your shoe size. I definitely recommend a soft boot like Rollerblade, K2, or Salomon. You may have to go with a larger size to accomodate the width. If there are any skating events around your area, check out the skate company's booths, ask questions, try them on. You can check out this forum, someone has a similar problem, and there are alot of recommendations:

http://groups.google.com/group/rec.sport...

Or if you want to go with the online route, maybe you can contact the store to get recommendations. Here's an online site that has free shipping (not sure how liberal their return policy is, though):

www.skatestop.net

I read that you would 'like to cut up %26amp; speed some also'. Since you have long feet, you might want to get skates that can accomodate 4 x 100mm wheels. You can use smaller wheels (78-80mm) on those frames, and as you feel more comfortable, switch up to larger wheels--90 to 100mm. The larger the wheel, the faster you will go. If you get skates with frames that can only take 80 mm wheels, you cannot trade up. If you would really like speed-skating, you might want to check out www.bont.com. They just came out with a 3-point mount system skates in a semi-race boot, which means the boots are cut taller for more ankle support. And the boots can be heat-molded to fit your feet! I also have wide feet, and also like to skate to exercise, and go fast. I always order custom skate boots from Glenn Koshi at Bont, and there is no other way you can go if you want skate boots that FIT you correctly. This is a bit pricier than buying off the shelf, but if you become committed to the sport, it might be 'the way'.

Hope you find your perfect pair of skates. Happy Rolling!
Reply:I found Missions quite narrow- probably not for you. You'll need soft wheels for an indoor floor. I wouldn't worry about bearings at that level.

I know you eat low carbs (so do I), but there are a few natural carbs that don't spike your blood/sugar level and store as fat. They are absorbed slowly, and having a very good glycemic index diabetic people also eat them. They are:

Do you think Inline Speek Skating should become an Olympic Sport?

Meet inline speed skating, a sport that's booming in many parts of the world but that's still in its infancy here. In essence, it's short track speed skating on wheels. The black and red clad skaters are members of CRISC, the Calgary Rollercade Inline Speed Club.

"The U.S., Columbia and Italy are clearly the three world powers now. But if you want to train seriously, there's certainly lots of possibilities down the road. Rollersports are one of the five new sports they are considering for inclusion in the 2012 Olympics."

Do you think Inline Speek Skating should become an Olympic Sport?
no i think they have too many boring events already
Reply:Based on athleticism then yes.

Its just finding the numbers, is it a sport internationally recognised on five continents and enjoyed and participated athletes in over 100 countries. Then the International Olympic Committee have to vote and change the laws alowing them to officially give inline skating the chance to make it on the International Olympic stage.
Reply:sure, why not?

I am training for a Rollerblade Marathon. I have some quick questions on skates?

1. Are swiss bearings the best bearings you can find?

2. What are the pros and cons of racing style inline skates.

3. How much of a disadvantage would I be at if I were to purchase regular workout blades, and after time, replace them with new wheels and the new swiss bearings. They come with SG9 bearings and 90 mm wheels to start. Crossfire 90II by Rollerblade.

I am training for a Rollerblade Marathon. I have some quick questions on skates?
1) no

Between the better bearings, there is actually very little difference to your speed. Your wheels will make a much larger difference. Take a look at the TwinCam (http://www.ilq9.com/) and Zero Drag(http://www.rollerbob.com/cat-8.html) bearings.

I use the Zero Drag racing wheels but I have 5x84mm frames and they don't make that wheel in 90.

RollerBob (www.rollerbob.com) has just gotten some AmWing wheels that the fast people have been raving about. They aren't on his web site yet so you would have to email him to get the details. They come in 90 to 110mm

2) If you are very fast, the low unpadded racing boot allows you to put more power into the stride.

If your ankles are not up to it or they don't fit you really well, they can kill your feet and time.

I know of one person who fought with them for many years and finally mounted his racing frames on a rec boot. He cut his time at the next Northshore Marathon by over an hour.

Bont (www.bont.com) introduced their semi race skate this year for those who want something better than the typical fitness skate but aren't ready for a race skate.

3) Your fitness and skill will each swamp your choice of skates.

Many (especially the more serious ones) people will keep a better set of wheels and bearings for race use and use their older ones for training.

You didn't say what level you are at. It makes a diffence if you are going for an hour twenty or will be happy with an hour fifty.

I am typically in the 1:45 area.

How long does it take to learn to inline skate?

Just bought the family skates/pads/helmets...me the wife and our 9 yo boy...wonder what to expect.

How long does it take to learn to inline skate?
A lot depends on the person. I have seen people pick it up immediately (like in strap them on and start moving comfortably) with no help and I have seen people who needed a couple hours of help just to move awkwardly.

If you have ever skated on ice or quad (aka old style) skates, you have a significant advantage.

Downhill skiing seems to be a slight hinderance. It seems that they put more weight on their toes, which is wrong for inlines.

I would suggest looking at Liz Miller's Get Rolling web site (www.getrolling.com/). There are some good hints there.

If you have a local person who KNOWS (not most skaters) how to describe the peoper techniques, it can take off a lot of time. You can search the web for local clubs. Most have people who are very willing to teach beginners.

You started right, with helmets and pads.

The basic stance is the "ready" position.

Feet shoulder width apart

Knees and hips slightly bent.

(Nose, knees, and toes in a vertical line.)

Arms slightly forward with hands up between the shoulder and waist and palms (covered by wrist guards) forward.

This position gives you the best ability to shift your weight to balance yourself.

Your balance should always be slightly forward. If you try to stand straight up, you are likely to fall backwards and smack the back of your head.

That does not mean to push on the toes.

For standing or gliding you want the weight balanced over the skate.

When you push, you want the main push to be through the heel.

You can start to learn by standing and walking on carpet or grass. This lets you get a feel for the balance.

The basic beginners stride is to point the toes slightly out and push to the side, then glide a little.

There are more people at the usenet group rec.sports.skating.inline that can help. If you don't know how to read usenet groups, you can do it via Google Groups.

If you let us know where you live, I may be able to help you find a local club that can help you.

If you can't find people locally to help, Liz Miller's book is good. I also found an out of production video tape that is very good at http://www.surfvideo.com/product_info.ph... . I wish that they would reissue it as a DVD.
Reply:Depends on what you call inline skating. Inline skating has been assigned to the more Extreme Skating sort of activities, and if you are talking about that, it took me about 2 years to become decent. If you are talking about skating with rollerblades, the skates with the inline 4 wheels, it can take anywhere from a day to a year depending on how long you try for and how well you can balance naturally.

You will need:

a helmet

a mouth piece

elbow pads

gloves

a cup

inline hockey pants

shin pads

and skates

If you don't already have skates then I would suggest to you getting a pair of Missions or Tours.
Reply:Depends on the league. some dont require chest protectors, but if they require everything youll need:

-helmet w/ cage

-mouthpiece

-Chest protector

- elbow pads

- gloves

- either a GIRDLE or ice hockey pants. (the girdle is less bulky)

- jock strap/ jill strap

- shin pads

- skates

You need inline hockey equipment, VERY IMPORTANT. - from head to toe.

Do not use Ice hockey equipment, you will get so hot and become dehydrated very fast.

Just think, in ice hockey we get hot and sweat incredible amounts of body fluids and we are on ice and its cold.

Imagine in a warm arena without ice...Crazy..You need the the lighter Inline hockey equipment.

I recently re-discovered the fun of roller skating, and I'd like to buy some skates for myself. I don't know of anywhere in my area where I can buy roller skates (not inline skates), but I'd rather not order them off the internet if at all possible. Does anybody know of a shop that sells them?

Dick's (http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/family... and Sports Authority (http://www.sportsauthority.com/family/in... both have them, and have stores in your area.

Think my ex broke into my apartment, stole my skates and her apartment keys. Can I press charges?

Came home last friday night to find 1 hockey skate, 1 inline skate and her apartment keys missing (I broke up with her 3 months ago). My neighbor says he saw someone looking like her. She has no keys to my apartment, there was no forced entry. I called and emailed her and she denied it, says she wasn't here and has no idea what I'm talking about. All I have to go by is my neighbor. Can I press charges? I've repeatedly called and emailed her to get her to confess. She has since filed a report with the police against me for aggravated harassment. I also went to her apartment with a friend, spoke with her super and tried to get him to let me into her place to see if my things were there on the pretense I misplaced my keys. He wouldn't let me in. I'm sure he's told her and she's gone to the police with this as well. Do I have any type of case given the circumstances, her with no key, no forced entry, they're skates, her already filing a complaint, do I have any type of case?

Think my ex broke into my apartment, stole my skates and her apartment keys. Can I press charges?
Without some kind of REAL evidence, you don't have anything.
Reply:No evidence, no case.

Reply:If I were you I would have my locks changed. Then, I would totally avoid contact with the ex, if you keep bothering her to confess, she'll probably get to file harassment against you. She already has the super to testify and say you tried to gain access to her place. She can't bag you on aggravated harassment unless you threaten her with physical or mental harm. Just stay away and be glad you are rid of her. You unfortunately don't have much in the way of proof. It's not worth it.

Reply:OMG! I just bought Skorpion skates! I use my favorite sneakers and they adjust around them. It took a few minutes to get use to them, but they are amazing because they just seem to glide over cracks and bumps in the pavement. I never liked inlines - but the wheels on these skates I think are inline wheels! They are really so cool - and the best part is that I can share them with my sister because they adjust to fit her big feet! Anyway, I went to www.skorpion.com and ordered them from Dick's. Check it out!

Reply:Roller rinks sell them, and there are a few skate shops that do. I'd suggest buying them in a store since different skates size differently and most skates are in men's sizes. I'm on a roller derby team and I wear a women's size 9. I have two pairs of skates, same brand but different boot and one is a men's size 8 and the other is a men's size 6.5!

I'd recommend either Riedell brand or Sure Grip, both websites will tell you where you can buy their skates. Make sure you get wheels to match where you'll be skating- outdoor wheels are softer than indoor.
Reply:If you buy online, make sure you find someone with a good exchange policy. I highly recommend:

Has anyone heard of skorpian skates?

just wanted to know if someone has tried out these skates and if so, what you think? they look like fun better than inline skates...

Has anyone heard of skorpian skates?
I haven't tried them but would like to. I have no illusion that they will be at all practical but like weird versions of skates. I have a pair of the old steel wheeled (quad before it was a type) roller skates.

The wheelbase is really short which is one of the big drawbacks of quad skates when on less than perfect surfaces. The longer wheelbase of inlines makes them more stable at speed or on rough surfaces.

There is a reason why quads are not used in any skate racing anymore. The first year that inlines were allowed, the quads became instantly obsolete. Your stride can be more efficient with the ability to use the edges of the wheels that the inline layout allows.

The area where quads have been comming back is in rinks and for dance / slalom moves.

For those options, I would go with the smaller, more compact width and lower profile of traditional quads.

What is a good brand for roller blades? Is Inline good?

Is "formula inline skates" a good brand?

What is a good brand for roller blades? Is Inline good?
The two major brands for inline skates in the US are Rollerblade and K2. Bladerunner is a low end brand made by Rollerblade. There are a few minor brands (like Roces and Tour) that make good skates but are more into specialized areas like hockey and agressive skating.

"Formula" as a brand (http://cgi.ebay.com/INLINE-SKATES-FORMUL... is likely to be a no name discount store brand. Most of those are not very good. You would have to look at how they are built and how much you will be using them.

If Formula is a model name such as Tour (brand) Formula (model) then they may be good but the Tour Formula skates (www.thefind.com/qq-Formula-Inline-Skate... are hockey skates rather than a general purppose (recreational) skate.

Things to look for in a skate:

Fit - If they don't fit snug around your feet, they will allow your feet to move around in them when skating. Not good for control and may cause blisters. They should be snug all around the feet but not crush your toes.

Wheel size - low end, childrens, and small adult skates may have wheels smaller than 80mm. If you intend to do much skating, 80mm or larger wheels are recommended. The smaller sizes are harder to get good replacements for and larger wheels roll better.

Frame (the part that holds the wheels) - metal is better than plastic. It is stiffer and transfers more energy to the wheels.

I have seen a heavy person on discount store skates with plastic frames that was asking why they didn't roll well. The mounting for the heel wheel had broken.
Reply:The thing about the roller blades is how they fit your foot. You need to try them on and stand on them (roller blade a little in the store, if you can).

Twenty minutes of trying on different brands, different styles, and YOU will know which ones you want. Yes, they feel that different. Bottom line, you pretty much get what you pay for.

I don't think the wheels/bearings are going to make that much difference when you are starting. Go by how they feel, and you will get good wheels/bearings because you won't settle for the cheapest ones.

Now get out there and go have fun! :-)

What are aggressive skates?

whats the difference between aggressive skates and inline skates?

What are aggressive skates?
Agressive skates are a specialized form of inline skates.

They have very small hard wheels with a flat profile to make landing off of a jump more stable.

They have notches between the 2nd and 3rd wheel so that you can ride a rail or the edge of an object better.

They have replaceable grind plates on the sole and frame so that sliding along objects do not destroy the skates.

They tend to be built heavier so that the pounding that they take on landings don't break them.

You could use other inline skates for agressive skating but they won't work as well as those designed for that purpose.

In similar manner, agressive skates have some drawbacks when used for recreational/fitness skating.

The small wheels take more effort to skate with than larger wheels.

The flat profile on the wheels take more effort to skate with than the typical rounded profile.

The hard plastic jars you more and slips easier on the ground than the typical inline wheels.

The heavier skates tire you more while skating than the lighter rec/fitness skates.

How to stop with roller hockey skates?

I been playing ice hockey for 15 years, but I wanted to get a pair of roller hockey skates.

Ive had normal inline skates with the rubber stopper but, i heard that some roller hockey skates dont use them because they can effect the crossover. If this is true what type of braking system do these skates use?

How to stop with roller hockey skates?
Unlike CCHS_runner's assertion, the vast majority of skates are recreational/fitness and come with a heel brake.

It is very possible to do crossovers with a heel brake. I have long 5 wheel skates and have never tripped myself doing a crossover with a brake.

However, in the heat of a game with people moving near you and behind you, a heel brake can easily hit your other skate or someone elses and take you down. So you go without a "braking system".

A lot depends on what you are doing in the game and why you want to stop.

If you really just want to suddenly point in a new direction, a lunge or parallel turn is your method. This can be used to coast to a stop similar to the tight circles you see ice hockey players doing.

If you twist the rear skate so that you let it skid sideways instad of rolling and turn in tighter, you turn the lunge turn into a lunge stop.

If you are going slower and want to stop in a short distance, the little brother of the lunge stop is a spin stop.

If you have plenty of distance to slow down in or just to remove a little speed, the T stop is useful.

All of these methods remove speed by scrubbing the wheels against the ground. They will wear the wheels faster than normal skating. The faster you stop, the more wear there is.

Hockey wheels tend to have wear additives added to the urethane. They roll a bit slower but last longer because of it.

It is much easier to learn these things from watching a real person who can describe details that you can't see well. Find a hockey practice and start chatting with the players.

I have yet to see a skater who is not thrilled to be asked to teach a skill but I do know a few who cannot teach and some who understand that and pass the question to a better teacher.
Reply:With roller hockey the most effective ways to stop are: spin real fast, drag one foot perpendicular to your other foot (this wears out your wheels fast), or depending on what surface you play on you can buy harder wheels that will allow you to stop the same way you do on ice (this takes some practice though).
Reply:either stop by bending over or crash into the boards. you will lose a tooth if you do either :)
Reply:you kind of have to spin to stop quickly hard to explain in words but if you dont need to stop quickly you can turn one blade sideways and drag it but this is murder on your wheels!
Reply:MOST inline skates dont have stoppers. If you play in an inline hockey league you dont use rubber stoppers. The way i stop is just drag my toe.

Stopping with in line skates?

Im an ice hockey player but i got inline skates so i can play outside at home..I've never roller bladed in my life before but from experience with ice skating i can move..just how do i stop? Is it the same way on ice?

Stopping with in line skates?
Depending on the surface you play on you may be able to do an ice hockey stop. Sport court of something with a little bit of slip might allow you do this. Harsher surfaces will of course shorten the life of your wheels. As another person said about not being as intense you should treat it more as a power turn.
Reply:No, it isn't the same. I played 4-5 years of roller hockey, and when I switched to ice, it was no where near the same. In roller hockey, you have to make a quick turn, which stops your momentum. It is much different then a ice hockey stop. If you try doing a hockey stop, you will just fall down immediately.
Reply:Its kinda like an ice hockey stop but not as intense. Don't put so much force just turn one skate and slowly push it away from you. If you try it like a hockey stop you will either a) end up on your face or B) end up on your butt.
Reply:You can't, really. Drag your toe to slow down or hit something/one. You can't hockey stop or stop ans start quick.
Reply:.
Reply:I find the easiest way is to lift up one foot, turn it sideways so the wheels are side on to the other foot (or most of the way there) and drag the foot gently behind you so that the side of the wheels acts as a brake? With a bit of practice it works a treat. If you do it that way it does wear the wheels down, but if I use the brake on the back of the skate it just puts my balance off!

Hope this helps (o:

Reply:Yah, I just bought some Missions for my wife, you gotta take them to a pro shop at your local rink or whatever. You cant just put them in your oven at home, unless you like throwing money away. My CCM Vectors were the same way, we both did it at the same joint.

My hockey skates bite into the side of my legs and it hurts!?

I just started playing inline hockey and i love it except for one thing. My inline skates seem to cut into the side of my legs and end up causing huge blisters that hurt like hell. Are they supposed to hurt this bad and is there any way to stop it from rubbing against me and hurting me? The skates fit perfectly so dont' say anything about the size. Thanks !

My hockey skates bite into the side of my legs and it hurts!?
tighten them up or wear higher socks. Skates have to be tight tight tight..
Reply:The top of the skates? Like the top of the boot you mean? If the top of the boot is cutting into the side of your leg, then you should tighten your laces.
Reply:Oh my God. I know exactly what you mean. I went through three pairs of inline skates before I gave up and bought these: http://www.oihl.com/ChassisLarge.gif

They're not AMAZING wheels or anything, but it's really convenient. I can use my Grafs outside. And no more chafing of my ankles. THANK YOU GOD. So if you have a pair of ICE hockey skates that you are comfortable in, try these out. It's really easy to convert them to inline skates.

They're not the model that I have, but I can't seem to find mine anywhere online.

Funny thing is, I never really noticed how much I would hurt my ankles while playing until the day after. You really don't realize it when you're into the game, and it just makes it worse. I tried the socks thing a few times, but apparently my skates were made in Hell. Seriously, I might as well have been playing with knives in my skates. My friend had the same inline skates though, and he never had the same problem as me! At all! Ever! Pffffffffft. So I guess you should just try and see what works best for you.
Reply:swith to figure skates there easier to move in, dont forget about the glitter and tassels.
Reply:Ya high socks should do it. If not wear multiple high socks and lace up your skates over them.
Reply:i don't think you have the right size.. either theyre way too small or they need to be tightened

http://hockeygiant.com/mis08bosssktsr.ht...

which would you recommend of these? with my other question everyone said that mission inline skates are really good. my boyfriend doesn't really play on a team or anything, he used to. and he's been playing since he was really young but i think it would be a nice thing to get him new skates since his are all torn up and REALLY old. he wears a size 11 in regular shoes, i need to check his old skates for what size they are. i'm sure he'll be really happy to get a brand new REALLY nice pair of skates. he's going to be moving to washington too, so i'll have to mail them to him. anyways sorry to make this long but thank you to whoever helps me (again) with this :)

How should i start aggressive inline?

ok so i wanna start aggressive inline skating so any tips on how i should start. might i add, sometimes on my reg skates im afraid t o jump cuz i dont wanna fall, any way to help slve this?

How should i start aggressive inline?
There are two ways. Jump in full tilt and build up to it.

Full tilt - pad up so it doesn't matter if you fall and get on a half pipe or rail. You are likely to have an "Oh S---!" moment and may even fall but discover that it works.

Build up - start by hopping over things as you skate on a street or trail. Get used to pushing off and landing.

Start skating off small (wide) steps or curbs. Bump up the speed and the number of steps.

Inline skate sizes>! how do they run? i want to buy my girlfriend a pair for valentines day.?

how do they run? she wears an 8 in womens shoes, or a 6 in mens shoes, what should size in skates should i get her?

Inline skate sizes%26gt;! how do they run? i want to buy my girlfriend a pair for valentines day.?
Skates run about a 1/2 size bigger than a shoe but what I would do is try to take her skating before V-day and see what size she picks out/fits her. If you can't take her skating you will be fine buying her a skate in a size 8. A 1/2 size is not going to matter when buying skates found at sports stores (fitness skates, 4 wheeled inline skates) such as K2 or Rollerblade brand skates. Size matters most when buying skates such as aggressive or racing. Please don't hesitate to ask me for clarification.

Aggressive inline around $150?

Does anyone know of a website I could get a pair of aggressive inline skates in a size 13 for under $200? Every place I go to (especially skate shops and the mall) anything over size 10 jumps about $100 in price.

Aggressive inline around $150?
Check out the online skate shops below. Their pricing does not change based on size and there are several skates out there that are under $150 and in your size range. All of the skates listed on these sites will be quality (none of that knock-off, falls apart in 2 days junk).

You can also try eBay as some skate shops sell their overstock there.

Best of luck and happy skating!
Reply:your best bet is to get them used at ebay because youlprobably never find a pair new for under 200$ and if you do they will probably stink. If you wanted them new then go to www.aggressivemall.com but i think cheapest size 10+ is atleast in the 200s

Inline skating?

anybody know what station on tv they show aggressive inline?

Inline skating?
Sometimes they show it on versus. They had the lg action tour a few months ago on versus, the outdoor channel. It's very seldom to find it on t.v. now, popularity has dropped, as it has been dropped from the x-games as well. Your best bet is to buy a video. check some out here: http://www.aggressivemall.com/Magazines-...
Reply:LG action sports is the best tv show for showing inline skating, the show vert park and street with skaters all around the world. the channel is 419 on sky.

Replacing Inline skate wheels...?

one of the wheels on my skates is chipped and needs to be replaced and I've never done it before...is this something I can do by myself or should I have a professional do it?

Also do I need to get a new bearing for it or is this something different?

Replacing Inline skate wheels...?
Nope, you can do it yourself. I've done it many different times, with my skates because my wheels wear out rather quickly. If you want to pay to have a professional do it right, that's your call. If you want a new bearing, that's fine, but i don't think its necessary This website will help you out:http://inlineskating.about.com/od/annual...

Also, this site tells you how to remove your bearings:http://inlineskating.about.com/od/mainta...

I hope you are able to fix your skates without too much hassle. Good Luck!
Reply:You should be able to replace the wheels yourself. Also, since one is dead, the others may follow soon, so you might want to replace all of the wheels. It is simple. just get two allen wrenches to go into the bolts holding the wheel in. Take the bolt out. Be sure not to let the spacers fall out (the plastic or metal thing protecting the wheel from hitting your skate). The wheel should come out easily.

http://inlineskating.about.com/cs/ht.htm

Next, remove the bearings. It might help to use the bolt from the skate to pop them out. Since you have the bearings out, you should clean and lube them. They do not have to be replaced, unless they are not spinning or are rusty. Then put those bearings on your new wheels, and bolt the wheels back onto your skate
Reply:It's fairly easy to replace inline skate wheels. Just make sure you have the skate tool or hex wrench (some skates require two, one for each side), and the wheel(s) to replace the old one with. Below is a link to step-by-step instructions.

You may want to change all your wheels at once, because the urethane wears out each time you roll, so if you don't change all the wheels, you may have different size wheels which may affect your roll, not to mention dangerous.

The bearing is a totally different part, but a very crucial one. If you feel that your wheels are not spinning as freely as you wish, you may want to clean, and lubricate them. This can be a very tedious procedure so if you're not too sure how to do it, you may want to get help--or you can just put in new ones!

Hope that helps--happy rolling! (^_^)
Reply:There is nothing to it - you can do it yourself. There will be a small wrench (looks like a key) that came with your blades. There will be a bolt that runs through the middle of your wheel (through the middle of the bering). Unscrew the bolt and remove the wheel. You will have to take the berings out of the old wheels (there should be 2 per wheel). Use a screwdriver and pop them out - they are just held in by pressure. Push them into the new wheel and install it back on the skate. The whole thing takes about 5-10 min.

Roller skates for beginner?

I'm thinking of buying outdoor roller skates, but since I'm a beginner I don't know which type would be best for me, quads or inlines. I'm 19 and don't really want to buy a second pair later on (I read other posts, and some suggested starting with quads and then moving to inlines after)...

If you skate (or used to skate), approx. how long did it take for you to learn to do it comfortably (w/o falling)?? {and mentioning the type of skate you used would be helpful too, thanks}..are quads easier to master than inlines, or is that a wrong assumption?

Any input is greatly appreciated ~ I'd love to hear your opinions regarding either/both skates, especially if you skate yourself=).

(what's aggressive inline skating?? I don't want to do it, just curious...)

Roller skates for beginner?
last time I skated on quads it was like 1980 something and they sucked back then, I inlined skated for a long time and took me a day to learn good and a good week of doing it comfortable enough to not fall down and actually skate around the city. I believe both are just as equal as the other, quads may be easier to learn on or skate on, my gf can't skate with inlines she has to use quads. Really it'll be up to your preferance. I don't inline skate anymore and did some aggressive inline skating for a while but I liked my skateboard more and that what I stick too. I'd just get something that you think you'll like and try it out, learning is up to how much time you want to put into it, learning to just skate around is easy, find a nice open area and go slow. Good luck
Reply:It’s personal preference. No one should influence your decision except you. Try them both and decide what you like. (I like quads.) By the way, all skaters fall; it’s just a matter of how often. Learn to fall and get up properly without causing yourself injury. That’s the key! Report It

Is it easier to learn inline skateing or skateing on quad wheels?

I grew up skateing on the quad wheels and loved it but that was years ago. My son (8) wants to learn how to skate. Someone told me it was easier to learn how on the inline skate instead of the quad. What do you think? Can you skate on roads and driveways in the inline skates? I know with the quads wheels it was hard because of small pebbles.

Is it easier to learn inline skateing or skateing on quad wheels?
Quads are easier to learn on as they give you a wider base on which to balance. Wheels are much softer now and don't get caught up on every little imperfection on the ground. However, if your son eventually wants to learn to inline skate, you might as well start there. The two feel completely different and after learning on quads, he'd have to learn all over again on inline skates.

Start him off on a flat, smooth surface and be sure he's wearing knee pads and wrist guards at the least. With inline skates, most people will either fall forward and put their arms out to catch themselves or will fall backwards on their butt and again, put their arms out.

When purchasing skates, be sure to buy quality. The cheap skates you'll find at places like Wal-Mart and Target are going to be uncomfortable and won't last. Visit a local sporting goods store and you should find a wide range of prices and quality. Stick to brands like Rollerblade, K2, Salomon or Nike. These skates will cost you a little more, but will last much longer. Some even have adjustable sizes so your son won't grow out of the skates quite so fast.

Good luck!
Reply:Geez. I would just fall on my butt with inline!

I say for 8 years old, get the quad.

I was such a wimp, getting the wierd plastic ones that could hardly roll too....! :D
